Beijing, China, October 16-18, 2015.At the invitation of the PLA General Hospital in Beijing, the Chinese Ministry of Health, and the Chinese Medical Association, the first International Headache Master School in China took place in Beijing from October 16-18, 2015. Chinese health policy has identified headache therapy as a key indicator of an innovative and effective healthcare system. Against this backdrop, the goal is to provide the population with modern, scientifically validated medical treatments. The focus is on the effective treatment of migraine and other primary and secondary headache disorders.
The International Headache Society (IHS), the Asian Regional Committee for Headaches (ARCH), and the Chinese Headache Society have invited international experts to initiate, expand, and network clinical care, research, and education in the field of headache therapy in China.
Over 50 million people live in the greater Beijing area alone. Primary and secondary headaches have been identified as a major health problem. Inadequate operationalized diagnostics, imprecise headache classification, repeated and constant changes of doctors, consistently inefficient use of healthcare services, work absences, psychological and physical complications, as well as medication misuse and overuse, lead to massive impairment for those affected and for society as a whole.
The establishment of an international network and the improvement of clinical care are intended to enhance the quality and efficiency of the Chinese healthcare system and make it future-proof. International headache centers serve as models, which are to be transferred to the healthcare system there.
Professor Hartmut Göbel presented the concept, networking, and working methods of migraine and headache care using the Kiel Pain Clinic as an example. It was agreed to intensify and further expand the collaboration.

Through intensive discussions, plenary sessions, and group work, participants gained in-depth insights into the possibilities of modern, evidence-based migraine and headache therapy. Basic research and clinical practice were presented and extensively discussed using top international presentations.
