The "Herold" already describes how, in cases of congenital hypothyroidism, "brain damage is irreversible" and "if congenital hypothyroidism is treated three weeks too late, a high school diploma is no longer possible." But what happens in the adult brain when thyroid hormones are administered or withdrawn? How exactly are brain function, brain structure, memory, and behavior affected?

Dr. med. Anna Göbel concludes her habilitation in the field of Experimental Neurology at the University of Lübeck with her inaugural lecture.
