Together against headaches
Headaches are the number one widespread disease. Many patients experience a years-long odyssey from doctor to doctor. This should end. The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) has, together with the Kiel Pain Clinic, the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) and established pain therapists, established a nationwide network of experts that is breaking new ground in therapy. The concept has received several awards, including as the best implementation of integrated care in Germany. A new information flyer from TK, which you can download from the download box, provides information about the process.

The concept in three steps

  • In phase 1 , the pain disorder is diagnosed by a regional pain therapist on site and classified into levels of severity.
  • In phase 2, full-time inpatient neurological-behavioral medical treatment is provided for severe pain disorders.
  • In phase 3, the patient is followed for a year. There is a progress and success check at regular intervals, after which the therapy is adjusted individually.

In the Techniker Krankenkasse 's IV project a national network of specialists from the outpatient and inpatient sectors work together to alleviate pain across disciplines and sectors using contemporary methods in an optimally coordinated and hand-in-hand manner. The treatment network is geared towards the specialized, interdisciplinary care of severely affected patients with severe chronic headache diseases, such as

  • Severe and frequent migraines,
  • Chronic tension-type headaches,
  • Cluster headache,
  • headaches due to medication overuse,
  • post-traumatic headaches,
  • Other symptomatic headaches,
  • neuralgia,
  • Headaches with complex comorbidities,
  • Rare forms of headache with severe suffering etc.

Your treating doctor will decide together with you based on the examination findings whether the treatment program is suitable for you and your illness.
Talk to him about it. He will help you decide. In cases of doubt, your doctor can clarify the admission decision via the network management telephone, Tel: 0431-20099120. Further detailed information can be found here .
