The online video pain consultation

In the treatment of migraines, headaches, and other chronic pain conditions, continuous monitoring of progress and treatment success is essential. Tailored therapy adjustments are a prerequisite for optimizing treatment outcomes in the long term.

As part of our integrated care program, we offer online video consultations nationwide to members of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) health insurance fund following their inpatient treatment. This eliminates the need for patients to visit the practice for post-discharge follow-up care. The video consultations are conducted by experts from the Kiel Pain Clinic, who are familiar with the patient's medical history and previous treatment. Specialized knowledge is thus made digitally available nationwide.

A specialized monitoring of progress and success can be provided across regions without travel, cost, or time investment. Therapy can be continued seamlessly and individually adapted.

As part of its integrated care program, Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) has entered into special contracts with the Kiel Pain Clinic. TK policyholders incur no costs for this service.

You can schedule an online video consultation via the practice's registration form. To participate, you will need a PC with an internet browser (Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome), a webcam, and a microphone (see below).

The technology

All communication is fully encrypted. The service works with most modern web browsers. Due to data protection requirements, this is not yet possible with all browsers. Why? The major advantage of our technology is that we use fully encrypted direct connections without additional software such as Flash or Java. Microsoft only recently joined the standardization process and is currently lagging behind other major browser manufacturers like Google and Mozilla. Individual medical histories are discussed during video consultations, so doctors and patients must be certain that no one has access to the confidential conversation. This has been ensured. The rigorous testing, based on the legal requirements according to Appendix 31b of the Federal Framework Agreement for Physicians (SGB V), was carried out using the ips standard, which is recognized nationwide and recommended by, among others, the Federal Ministry of Justice and consumer protection associations.

Scheduling an appointment

You can schedule an appointment for an online consultation with our practice secretary. Online consultations are only available to patients who have already received outpatient or inpatient treatment at the Kiel Pain Clinic. For your appointment, you will be at your device, which should be equipped with a webcam and microphone. This can be your PC, laptop, or tablet. At the start of your appointment, your doctor will send you an individual link and a TAN (transaction authentication number) via email. These are valid only for the duration of your appointment. The link will take you directly to the digital waiting room. When your doctor is ready, you can enter the digital consultation room. The consultation will not be recorded, and you are not permitted to record it.

Note: You do not need any additional software to participate in the online video consultation. You only need the following:
a) a PC or laptop with an internet connection
b) a standard webcam
c) a current version of one of the following web browsers:
– Google Chrome (free download)
– Mozilla Firefox (free download)
