Since January 1, 2022, physicians with a particular interest in the care of migraine patients have been able to participate in the specialized migraine care contract between Techniker Krankenkasse (a German health insurance company) and the Kiel Pain Clinic. This allows them to treat migraines using state-of-the-art methods in a cost-effective manner.
Who is the contract for? It is for specialists with the additional qualification "Special Pain Therapy" or a designated special focus on migraine care. Patients must have a confirmed migraine diagnosis. Furthermore, these individuals must be candidates for treatment with CGRP antibodies or gepants.
The contract offers the following advantages to doctors with a particular interest in the care of patients with migraines:
- Prescribing CGRP antibodies or gepants for migraine prevention is possible even after two other approved prior therapies that are ineffective, not tolerated, or contraindicated
- CGRP antibodies or gepants can be prescribed economically.
- The structured and clearly regulated documentation of the prescribed CGRP antibodies or gepants offers protection against recourse claims.
- Participating physicians are partners in an innovative collaboration.
- Additional compensation is provided for the care.
