Fighting Headaches Together:
Headaches are the number one health problem. Many patients endure a years-long odyssey from doctor to doctor. This is about to change. The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) , together with the Kiel Pain Clinic, the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), and independent pain therapists, has established a nationwide network of experts that is pioneering new approaches to treatment. The concept has received numerous awards, including recognition as the best implementation of integrated care in Germany. The concept in three steps

  • In phase 1 , the pain condition is diagnosed on-site by a regional pain therapist and classified into severity levels.
  • In phase 2 , patients with severe pain disorders receive full inpatient neurological and behavioral medicine treatment.
  • In phase 3, the patient is monitored for another year. Progress and success are assessed at regular intervals, and the therapy is individually adjusted based on these assessments.

In the Techniker Krankenkasse 's integrated care project, a national network of specialists from outpatient and inpatient settings collaborates to optimally coordinate and alleviate pain across disciplines and sectors using state-of-the-art methods.   • Headaches due to medication overuse,

  • Rare forms of headache with severe suffering, etc.
