Knowledge about the precise classification, diagnosis, and treatment of migraines and headaches has expanded dramatically in recent decades. Clinical studies and extensive basic research have provided solid evidence for the effective treatment of migraines, primary and secondary headaches, facial pain, and head and facial neuralgia. Beyond the individual suffering, the significant societal impact of headache therapy necessitates the development of a specialized profile and focus in this area. Consequently, the demand for qualified migraine and headache experts who operate across disciplines, are familiar with current research findings, and can translate them into successful headache care is increasing.
To implement these new scientific findings, the Faculty of Medicine at Kiel University, in cooperation with the Kiel Pain Clinic, will offer the part-time Master's program in Migraine and Headache Medicine starting in the winter semester of 2021/22. Renowned and highly qualified lecturers will present an interdisciplinary academic body of knowledge on various topics in migraine and headache therapy, allowing participants to actively contribute their diverse professional experiences and expertise. The curriculum's variety of teaching methods, including public lectures, case seminars, and group discussions, provides ideal conditions for this. Extensive practical placements in outpatient and inpatient settings are another key component.
As part of the Master's program, a public information event with a panel discussion on the topic of migraine and headache medicine will take place for those affected and interested parties.
