Inpatient admission
The Kiel Pain Clinic is an approved hospital according to § 108 of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V), and is included in the Schleswig-Holstein state hospital plan (planned hospital). In addition, according to a service agreement pursuant to §§ 108 No. 3, 109 SGB V, the clinic provides acute inpatient treatment (§ 39 para. 1 SGB V) for patients residing outside of Schleswig-Holstein who are members of the health insurance associations, for the indications of chronic pain due to diseases of the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including the muscles, within the framework of neurological-behavioral medicine treatment procedures. Patients insured by all statutory health insurance funds, all private health insurance funds, those eligible for public assistance, and self-paying patients are treated. Inpatient hospital admission requires a physician's prescription for hospital treatment and proof of medical necessity based on previous findings. This must provide sufficient justification for inpatient therapy.
The waiting time for admission varies. The individual illness is also taken into account, and the time until admission can be several months.
The Kiel Pain Clinic, a specialized center for chronic pain patients, provides outpatient and inpatient care to patients from across Germany and abroad. Numerous innovative health insurance companies have established coordinated integrated care arrangements with our treatment network, in accordance with Sections 140a et seq. of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V). This allows participating insured individuals to receive expanded and coordinated treatment with significant advantages beyond standard care. We will inform you about this during registration, and you can then decide whether you wish to participate in standard care or the expanded, integrated, and coordinated care program (see below).
For insured persons of health insurance funds for whom an agreement on integrated care exists, the indication, the coordinated treatment beyond the standard care as well as the cost coverage are smoothly and unbureaucratically regulated nationwide.
Integrated care
Upon admission, we will inform you about the possibility of participating in integrated care. Specific information can be found here on our website under the respective integrated care treatment programs.
These are the things you will need
Admission to specialized inpatient pain therapy requires a diagnosis of chronic pain that cannot be adequately treated with outpatient or rehabilitative measures. Due to legal requirements, we must verify this before admission. To schedule your admission date, please complete the following steps.

Please note that every patient with statutory health insurance must pay a co-payment of €10 for 28 days. Hospitals are obligated to collect this co-payment. This co-payment is regulated in accordance with Section 39 Paragraph 4 of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V) (inpatient hospital treatment).

Waiting times
To keep waiting times at the practice short, we schedule appointments by phone . However, medical work, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain, often cannot be planned in advance. Please bear with us if it takes a little longer! Call us before you set off for your appointment. We will let you know if there are any delays and discuss whether you can arrive later. If this is your first visit, remember the words of a former patient: "It's not how long you wait, but what you wait for."
Please help our team with scheduling: When booking your appointment, please let us know if your visit will require extra time. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us immediately, even at short notice!
Please compile the above-mentioned documents yourself and bring copies with you for our records. This will save us time and allow us to dedicate more time to you and your treatment. Thank you.
