Kiel, February 4, 2019. The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) health insurance company, together with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) and the Kiel Pain Clinic, is launching digital discharge management. In the future, TK-insured individuals will receive their discharge report immediately after a hospital stay in their electronic health record (EHR) TK-Safe. This will make treatment results more structured and accessible to patients and doctors without waiting times. This will allow for faster and more targeted outpatient follow-up care. Rudolf Dück, Head of Information Technology at UKSH, explains: “The integration of the EHR into discharge management fits perfectly into UKSH’s digital agenda. Our goal is a keyboard-free hospital without cumbersome bureaucracy for staff and patients.”
TK launches networking initiative in Schleswig-Holstein
In addition to the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) and the Kiel Pain Clinic, the nordBlick Eye Clinic Bellevue in Kiel and the Park Clinic Manhagen in Großhansdorf will also connect their discharge management systems to TK-Safe. The hospitals will link their information systems using an interface developed by IBM Germany, enabling the transmission of discharge reports to TK-Safe. A further interface is planned to connect the Kiel Pain Clinic's migraine app to the patient's electronic health record (EHR). The pain diary kept in the app can then be transferred to the EHR and made available to the treating physician along with all collected health information about the patient. Prof. Dr. Hartmut Göbel, Chief Physician of the Kiel Pain Clinic, welcomes the integration of the migraine app into TK-Safe: “Both patients and physicians benefit from digital self-management. Consolidating the data in one app further improves medical care, allows for the sustainable implementation of therapy guidelines, and enhances self-efficacy.”
TK-Safe: digital data vault for health information
Together with IBM Germany, TK has developed the electronic health record TK-Safe. Insured members can use it to store and manage all medically relevant data, such as X-rays, diagnoses, and lab results, in a structured and clear format on their smartphones – protected by two-factor authentication. This gives patients sole control over their data, allowing them to decide who receives which information. The eGA enables more targeted diagnosis and treatment of illnesses . “With the integration of discharge management and a migraine app into TK-Safe, we are continuing our networking initiative in Schleswig-Holstein. Patients become managers of their health data, doctors are relieved of some of their workload, and the transition from hospital to outpatient care becomes easier and safer for everyone involved,” says Dr. Johann Brunkhorst, Head of the Schleswig-Holstein State Office of Techniker Krankenkasse.
