I would like to thank everyone for the many kind wishes I received for the Christmas holidays and the New Year. I was delighted by each and every one. I was particularly touched by a letter from a 77-year-old English-speaking patient who was treated at our clinic a few years ago. Since the age of 20, he had suffered daily, severe headaches and had to take painkillers continuously. This severely impacted his family and work life. For decades, pain was central to his experiences and behavior. He wrote: “One day you will not receive a Christmas letter from me anymore, but I will always be grateful…” He had given up hope and confidence in his recovery years ago. On the accompanying card from his referring neurologist, there were the lines: “You are my example to encourage plenty of other victims to strike this pain…”

No one should have to endure decades of unnecessary pain, losing hope due to a lack of knowledge and coordination. The active obstruction of effective therapies by an outdated and rigid healthcare system is the main obstacle. I experienced this again last year. At the same time, I was also fortunate to receive support, understanding, and friendly assistance. The awareness of a stronger vision and the certainty of a promising path should continue to be the foundation for courage, strength, and confidence in the new year.

The team at the Kiel Pain Clinic and I wish you a happy new year and a healthy, happy, fulfilling, and successful 2025. We look back with gratitude on a very eventful and diverse year and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us in our commitment to providing modern, effective care and its further development. We look forward to keeping you regularly informed again in 2025 here at schmerzklinik.de as well as in our headbook and Facebook groups.
Sincerely, Prof.

New Year's song

Along with joy, pain wanders
intimately through the ages.
Heavy storms, mild weather,
anxious worries, joyful celebrations
change side by side.

And where a tear falls,
a rose also blooms.
Beautifully mixed, even before we ask,
for thrones and for huts,
pain and pleasure are in the lot.

Wasn't it like that in the old year?
Will it end the same way in the new one?
Suns rise and fall,
clouds come and go,
and no wish can change it.

May He who
weighs us with righteous scales
to each one a sense of joy and
to each one courage for sorrow
in the coming days.

May everyone on life's path have
a friend by their side,
a contented mind
, and
hope to accompany them on their journey, along with quiet kindness of heart.
